Sissy Green Tea

Christmas 2010

The Thursday before Christmas I went in for my 3 month CT scan to see if the “new potatoes” in my chest had shrunk. After being on the poison pill, an oral chemo, for the last four months I was a bit disappointed to find out that there was no change. However, no change is better than having things get worse. The doc and I are to sit down and have a heart to heart on Monday. I suspect he wants to put me on steroids in order to start chiseling out my Charles Atlas body; however, I’m not so sure I am willing. The side effects of that stuff are a bit unsettling. Extreme weight gain, dermal thinning huh, diabetes, depression, and the list goes on and on. I figure I would just as soon be plum tuckered out all the time then to be a fat, bald, depressed, toothless, and a diabetic. Please except my apologies if I described you. I did a Google search for, “How to not gain weight while on steroids.” It was located next to the, “How to not get a belly during pregnancy.”

I have spent time researching natural products for Sarcoidosis. I found one real promising organic substance that sounds like it may work well. The excitement on-line by other Sarcoidosis patients was contagious. I’m not sure of its real name, but from what I can figure out, the generic form is called “Weed.” I look forward to discussing this option with my doctor on Monday.

Coffee and Sissy Green Tea (SGT), as my pastor calls it, are my new best friends. One thing I learned during the colon cleansing process required for the poke-a-bottomy is that if I can drink a gallon of that stuff I can drink anything. These two new additions along with my carrot juice and water are doing wonders for me. The coffee picks me up and the SGT settles the potatoes down.

Do you realize how hard it is to make a cup of something drinkable out of something that smells good, but taste rather unpleasant? Ah yes waiter I’ll have two packs of the pink stuff err rather one of the bluish yellow packets, with a dash of the cream. Oh never mind surprise me with your special blend. Oh you don’t drink coffee? Then just add one packet of each and make it half cream. You that drink this stuff everyday don’t understand how hard it is to get started with this habit. After all do you have a clue how long I stood in the coffee/tee section of the store with my eyes glazed over wondering if I had forgotten my eye drops that morning. Tea bags, tea leaves, tea pot, instant tea, hot tea, cold tea, green tea, black tee, this blend, that blend, grind your own, taste like you ground your own, grind here, why grind when you can press, and the list goes on. It had been a month of discovery. As I told my Face Book (FB) friends, I settled on fresh Mexican jumping beans squeezed in a French press served in fine China. This puts a jump in my step with an international flare. Thanks to all my FB friends who helped me get started in the right direction.

So life goes on. Fatigue has been a constant coming up on a year next month, but life is good. One thing I like about a good vacation is that I settle down enough to be able to think about the important things. Maybe I will get a blog out soon about those thoughts.

I pray that God will bless you in this new year as he has me.

I have been wondering about how you are doing. Steroids are NO fun, I pray you find an alternative that works. My FIL has sarcoidosis and has taken the steroids and you are right, you don't want to go there if you can help it.

I've heard that moderate motorcycle riding and some gentle flight maneuvers help in such cases. ...along with the green tea, of coarse.

Tim,
Thanks for the update. We are still praying for you and your complete recovery. I too hope you can find an alternative to the "nasty stuff". Maybe our paths will cross in OK. Finally made it around 2:00 this afternoon- after 800 miles. Talk to you soon. Dan

Thank you for the update. If you run out of tea and coffee mixes, give me a call. They are all that keep me going! Yahoo for good vacations. You know, being fat, bald, and toothless could really accentuate your banjo playing? Just saying. :) Keeping the prayers going, my friend.

Hi Tim,
Try putting cinnamon and/or cloves in your coffee and lemon in your green tea.

There are flavors of green tea such as blueberry and rasberry too- check them out!

Try a small teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in water every morning also.

***of course first check with your personal physician first... :)

All the best,
Joni
